From the Sutton's point of view they've given up nothing but a lot of
yard work.

When Victoria and Chris Sutton decided it was time to downsize from their two - storey home to a bungalow with a smaller lot in preparation for their retirement years, they didn't want to give up the features they loved about their place in Nobleton. They still wanted a beautiful home with generous sized rooms and enough bathrooms to accommodate their six children, some of whom were temporarily living at home and others who would be visiting. It was also important their home be in a natural setting, yet close to local amenities. After the Suttons discussed their desire to downsize with friends, it was suggested they check out Berkshire Homes' Bateman Lane development...and from the first visit to the sales office, they were impressed with the knowledge and helpfulness of the sales staff. They were also impressed with Berkshire Homes' commitment to energy efficiency. But it was a visit to Berkshire model homes that convinced them they had found their ideal retirement home. As Victoria describes it, "we thought the homes were just phenomenal."

The Suttons liked the Summerhill with loft design, as it was ideal for their current lifestyle, but would also give them the flexibility they'd require as their needs changed. For example, they could initially have a bedroom in the loft area, but as their children moved out they could convert this space into a den or office.

In deciding to proceed with the purchase of a Summerhill model in Bateman Lane, Victoria and Chris upgraded their cabinetry, opted for hardwood flooring throughout and added coffered ceilings in some areas of the home. And in the future, the couple also plan to finish their lower level and put in a pool. Victoria and Chris are looking forward to living on a private road where there is no through traffic, exploring the various walking trails throughout the community and being surrounded by the beauty of the conservation lands year round. They also appreciate that they are a short drive to all the amenities they need and Victoria notes that an added bonus is that they can walk to both the grocery store and their church, a convenience that will save them money in gas. In fact, she notes that because of the nature of the road, it's actually quicker for her to walk to church, than to drive around to it.

The Suttons are eagerly anticipating their move into their new home in December and Victoria says that everything is progressing well. "Sarah (The Sales Manager) and Norm (The Construction Manager) have demonstrated a high degree of professionalism. They have been so willing to accommodate our needs, the communication has been phenomenal and any corrections or changes were quickly made. After building two custom homes previously, building with Berkshire Homes has definitely been the best experience we've ever had."
